INFO
I'm a virtual executive assistant. Originally from Chicago I spent the last four years in Portland, Oregon but have since returned to my hometown. I love music, art and all creative endeavors.
I've studied graphic design, photography, and have a certification in Cosmetology. I'm also an experienced touring and recording musician. I've played sold out shows in some of the best music venues in Chicago and all over the country. Playing opening spots for large music festivals like Lollapalooza and Pitchfork and alongside other national acts like: The Black Lips, Vivian Girls, Best Coast, Titus Andronicus, and Crystal Antlers.
I'm very involved in the LGBTQIA and QTPoc communities and have been asked to contribute to queer fashion blogs like DapperQ and Qwear. I help host a monthly "Brown Brunch" for QTPoC at different Public Park locations around Portland and now Chicago. I'm also the creator of a blog that celebrates and pays homage to 1950's inspired hairstyles as worn specifically by butches, femmes, queers, and gender variants of all stripes.
The rock band posters and art you see in the Gallery section of this website have all been created by me for my previous band, Bird Talk. I would love to be able to create screen printed art and images as well as get back into playing music with others, but have lacked the resources, time, and space to do so since I've moved back. If you would like to collaborate on a project together, feel free to message me at: mel.m.marquez@gmail.com
The photos and video on the Tumblr Project page were either taken, currated by, or sent to me specifically for the purposes of being shown via the FYQP blog. I've been overwhelmed by the amount of positive feedback and appreciation I've received from people all over the world beacuse of it. I believe that something about the synergy of timing and creative self- expression in this age of social media have allowed myself and others to find solidarity and validity in our identities and the freedom to express them how we see fit. It's a beautiful thing.
